Croton watch sea diver9/13/2023 ![]() This watch was photographed on a 175mm/6.9inch wrist. The dial, case, and movement are signed by Croton. The crown appears to be a later replacement. The bezel is in overall great condition with light scratches and some wear along the very edge. The lume on the dial and hands have developed patina. Very nice vibrant blue and gold color, 5 ATM 150ft water resistant is what it. The hands are in good condition and have developed patina. The dial is in good condition with some patina. Add in the tachymeter scale on the periphery of the dial, the dueling 60-minute/12-hour markers on the rotating bezel, and the simple pump pushers, and you've got all the ingredients of one of the most underrated sport watches out there. This example is a real looker, with a splash of red on the minutes sub-dial that can operate as a five-minute countdown timer in a pinch. Those include the broad arrow-style hands, the stepped sub-dials with radial numerals, and the hand wound Valjoux 23 movement ticking inside. Today's watch is considered to be more desirable than your conventional Chronomaster for its combination of external and internal characteristics. The Chronomaster was produced in a wide variety of case, dial, and movement executions throughout its production years. As a result of the twosome's partnership, many Nivada watches sold in the United States were branded Croton (or Croton Nivada Grenchen).Īlongside the Antarctic, the Chronomaster chronograph is the most collectible (and best known) watch to come from the Croton (and Nivada) stable. You might recognize the Croton name from the company's long standing relationship with the Swiss brand Nivada Grenchen. In need of a larger office, the company eventually moved to Croton-on-Hudson, a suburb of the city, in 1963. Jacob Horton originally founded the Croton Watch Company in New York City in 1878. The silicone strap is equipped with a special buckle, and the watch is water-resistant up to 20 ATM. This watch boasts a durable 316 L stainless steel case measuring 43 mm, complemented by a ceramic bezel and a K1 sapphire-coated crystal. There is a tachymeter around the circumference of the dial and a minute and seconds track around the circumference of the dial.A crisp, clean example of Croton's all-in-one classic, the Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver. The sub dial hands are all painted black. The Hour, Minute and Chronograph Seconds hands are all silver in color and have luminous compound. This is a very cool, large piece which comes with an interesting story, making it perfect for many collectors. ![]() The watch has been fitted with a brand new heavy stitch Hirsch strap. The watch is in fair condition with its original screw down crown and rotating bezel. ![]() ![]() Of course we can come up with any story to suit our own narrative but we have since found multiple models with the same ghosted Croton front behind the Rotary logo making this certainly not a one off. We think that Rotary had a few pieces, removed just the Croton logo and applied theirs making the watch quite unique. When we looked closer at the rotary logo we noticed some ghost font that starts with a “C” and ends with a “N”, Croton? we think so. What makes this watch so interesting, and somewhat mysterious, is that this watch model is from Croton (Nivada Grenchen) and we have not seen a partnership from them before. The watch is housing a manual wind Valjoux Cal 7736 Chronograph movement. This is an interesting, large Rotary Croton Diver-Chronograph that back in the day was water resistant to 200m. ![]()
